Efforts to promote Mexico's tourism destinations are being heard halfway around the world. Mexico is ahead of many destinations tourism in the procession in the rapidly growing Chinese market. For the second year in a row, the Tourism Board of Mexico participated in what is now one of the most attended business events business trip out of China, the output of China 2007 Travel and Tourism Market (Cottman), which took place in China World Trade Center in Beijing on May 14 – 16.

As one of the 132 countries around the world to have the Approved Destination Status (ADS) by China's government, Mexico, where tourism ranks as its second highest source of foreign income, is particularly anxious to increase the number of visitors and expenditures in this region. 2007 Cottman, which attracted over 200 exhibitors from 40 countries worldwide, attended by the Director General of Tourism of Mexico, Francisco Lopez Mena. As part the agenda of President Felipe Calderón to stimulate the tourism industry in Mexico, Lopez Mena was an active participant in all the promotional events held in Beijing.

"China's emergence on the world market has significant implications for the global economy and especially for the tourism industry" said Director General of Tourism of Mexico, Francisco Lopez Mena. "We are very ambitious about the Chinese market and are seeing the potential of and to our tourism economy, "added Lopez Mena.

According to the World Tourism Organization at least 100 million Chinese will travel abroad annually by 2020, and the number of Chinese who travel the world more than doubled in just four years. The International Forum on Outbound Chinese reports that the number of exits increased output from16.6 million in 2002 to 34.5 million in 2006. Although more than 12,000 visitors traveled to Mexico from China in 2006, according to latest statistics from the Mexico Tourism Board, the annual growth rate of over 12% compared to 2005 figures. This best illustrates the potential for Mexico's economy.

Sensing the tourism potential output in China and pursue the agenda of the government to strengthen relations between the two countries, Mexico was able to change the visa procedures for residents of Hong Kong. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport holders visiting Mexico now enjoy visa-free access for 90-day visit. This means greater convenience for Hong Kong travelers and helps promote trade, tourism business and relations between the two countries.

Mexico is the second of China's main trading partner in Latin America after Brazil, and tourism plays an active role in strengthening trade and cultural relations. Following the successful development of relations between Mexico and China, Mexico Tourism Board considers China as a friendly cooperation partner and hopes to make joint efforts with China to promote the development of both countries mutual relations in an all-around way.
