What is the type of gardening and agriculture when you put different plants near each other to help protect from pests?
I'm trying to find more information about the type of gardening or agriculture in which maybe a blueberry bush plant under an apple tree. This should allow for pesticides Wild-type and maintain a rich soil.
Its called companion planting. Can be used for various purposes. Some plants help to deter pests plants, such as garlic. Some help to attract pests away from other plants such as Calendula attract aphids planting roses with. Some enrich the soil, as dandelion produces nutrients from deep in the soil. Some contribute to the health of sick plants, like chamomile (which also protects plants buffer seedlings against disease). Some attract beneficial insects that feed on insects that infest your garden, as the lace of Queen Anne that attracts to parasitic wasps. There a number of excellent books out there that cover in-depth companion planting, such as tomatoes carrots Love, Roses Love Garlic by Louise Riotte Here are some sites that might interest you http://www.sheridannurseries.com/gardensite/subGARDENTIP25mainframe.htm http://www.mi.ca/compendium/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companion_plants
