A resident of River Oaks called us and asked if she could harmoniously combine organic and inorganic components of your landscape design which complements the classic architecture of your home and exterior masonry. We immediately noticed that the symmetry of their three-story house, and fine linear patterns stone courtyard and the surrounding area were also two very key elements used in the Italian garden. We share this vision with the owner, who agreed that a designed as to work very well for what she had in mind.
Work began on the road leading from the sidewalk in front of the house. This bend in the road the sidewalk between two small stone walls and converging in a number of very small, climbing stairs reminiscent of a ladder. This gave us the opportunity to establish a sense immediate formal entry processing the front of the catwalk with Agapanthus and a number of other perennials and flowering plant species that flourish in the seasonal cycles during the spring and summer. We framed the flowering plant boxwoods to create an organic compound whose angular symmetry and restraint speak to the essence of a Italian garden.
At the other end of the runway, where he ascended the steps to the gallery, the runway was extended symmetrically and crossed by a side with the motor court. This stone was almost proportional to the design of a planter, and gave us an additional opportunity for the planting of a number of species colored plant. We deliberately used a year such as snapdragons, to create an entirely new floral color changing with the arrival of each new spring. As he did on the front, then framed with boxwood flowers that were planted in rows intersecting at right angles. This served to frame the flowers with an organic compound compatible with the balance and symmetry angle of the Italian garden design.
The bungalow will itself was a classic element in its own right. He rose from the landscape to a height almost equal to its width. The Renaissance architecture and appears in both Roman artifacts that gave a very old, stately European sensibility. Its windows were arched high and its third floor was a balcony decorated with geometrically congratulated the entire structure and the roof top. We added pots and planters to the area to create an outdoor garden in the yard, along with an irrigation system to reduce to a minimum the need for constant maintenance. Then, to draw the eye upward to the garden, patio, two Italian cypresses planted on either side of the house, whose height adds a sense of continuous vertical movement upwards. We vegetation in the front of the house to a minimum. This was done both to maintain aesthetics of the windows, and also to allow people inside the house to see better out the windows.
To ensure that both the vegetation and architecture were clearly visible at night, we have installed lights on the facade and Italian cypress trees with mercury vapor lights. Also lit two high oak trees growing on both sides of the road, near the sidewalk. This keeps the sense of a large entrance door after dark. We deliberately took a minimalist approach to the illumination of the front of the house, with lighting to accentuate only the elements of the landscape of the Italian garden, and let the rest of the light comes through the windows from inside the house.
After we completed the front, we turn our attention to the side of the house. This area was unique because it was a yard that was completely covered by masonry. Linear proportions and angles right frames the luxurious pool with an exquisite sense of formal symmetry. The geometry was ideal to create a small Italian garden on the other side of the pool, and requires only a few basic elements for add this organic aesthetic. We planted a row of trees from Holly on the other side of the pool, and lighted with concealed fittings. We mounted a cherub Italian in the center of the pool wall, lighting with special light sculpture, and balance its presence as a centerpiece with handmade Italian pottery placed both sides of the pool wall.
This effectively turned what had been an empty space on the other side of the pool in a mini-garden area that works as a wall decoration, green living surrounding the entire yard and always seclusion and privacy to the homeowner and their guests.
