True English

English Bitter is one of the most flattering of styles. For homebrewer of this may be one of the easiest styles of beer making.

Bitter as a style has many different flavors and surprises. Most often bittersweet and hops. English Bitter receive this generous offer of the British noble hops.

Hops of which I speak are Challenger, Wye Target, Fuggles and most prestigious of all East Kent Golding. There are many regional is in this style too.

One of the most famous was Boddingtons bitter. This beer was once a staple of the Greater Manchester before InBev bought them. Unfortunately, Strangways Brewery in Manchester has been closed.

This was a very good example of an English bitter that was once respected by me. Another example of this style was Mansfield Bitter. Again, sadly the brewery in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire has been closed since then.

It is no longer a staple of Mansfield, where he was worshiped through the Midlands. Very few examples of true English Bitter are available in the states.

However there are many examples of pale ale all areas. English taste in the family is included in the Pale Ale. Actually there are three categories for English bitter.

Ordinary Bitter Theres a gravity between 1.035 to 1.040. I like my regular bitter between 1.038 and 1,040. Normally leaped 25-35 IBU.

Then theres Special / Best Bitter with the gravity of between 1.040 to 1.048. Hop IBU's around 25-40.

There are also Extra Special Bitter or ESB for short. Gravity's usually between 1.048 to 1.060. This gets IBU usually around 30-50 + generous.

Respectively, which almost always malt and bittersweet. Usually the flavors do not change much between the three examples. Beers more serious tend to accentuate the malt taste of Britain.

Great sage who want to find a very good floor two British malted barley. My favorite malt in this case are Thomas Fawcett Marris Otter and Halcyon. This is a family business in West Yorkshire beer.

Examples of beers made with Thomas Fawcett malts Theakstons Old Pecuiler, Bass Pale Ale. Just to name few. Be sure to use good fresh hops also British.

So try to do and make you same. I think you'll be impressed.
