Perennial Plants

Growing perennials take a bit of work ahead of time. To prepare for the perennial border planting, shovel or rototiller need the bed two or three weeks before the planting to allow time to settle down. Also, they incorporate a bucketful of peat moss or compost per square meter, or spread about 1-3 inches of matter in all the area before digging. Also, Sprinkle a complete general purpose garden fertilizer over the area before digging. target = "_self"> Fertilizer Use in amounts specified on the package.

Just before planting, rake the area to break up any large groups of soils and surface level.

Drawing of a plan to show the approximate location of each perennial is a good idea. A large piece of graph paper works well for this project. Outdoors, use the tag stakes to mark the location of the plants before removing.

Perennials can be planted almost anywhere time the soil can be worked. The spring is the most popular, but autumn is also excellent. In cold regions the spring planting is probably safer, all plantings should be done early for plants to become established before winter. Apply fertilizer after the soil has frozen, for avoid freezing and thawing, stirring target = "_self"> climbing plants on earth and exposes the roots to air drying and risks.

Flowerpot established perennials readiy even when in flower and can be planted in summer if kept well watered.

Perennials inactive, either bare root or potted small can be reached by e-mail several days befoe should plant them. Open the package, water if necessary, and store in a cool place indoors or in a shady place outdoors, away from drying winds. The sooner they are planted, the better their chances of survival. Always water plants and then planting.

Make sure to set the plants at the proper depth. In most cases, this means the point at which the roots and stems must meet the established ground level. If planted too shallow, the roots are exposed, if it is too deep, the crown can rot.

Following the plan seed, establish guidelines on the bed in the corner of a hoe. In a large bed, the guidelines are easier to follow if they are marked with sand. These will remain even if the rain would postpone planting. Work on one section at a time, or do the back first, and work forward. Space plants to permit the possible spread of foliage. The best results were obtained when three or more of one type of plant are presented together.

For plants with root systems small, use a trowel to make holes for the large root systems, use a shovel. Make holes large enough to accommodate the spread of roots. Set upstairs in the center-right. Firm the soil around each plant and water.
