The best vegetable source of grass (Pennisetum?)?
I have about 5 hours of morning sun directly in the place I want to plant shade-dried fountain grass. Its near a large mature oak tree that sucks the water or a lot of my backyard, but manages to leave boxwoods grow near 7 feet in his truck. My plan is to plant grass source of about 10 feet away from the same trunk. In addition, grasses are increasing each year? So I have not cluster too closely, when the plant?
Premium Response: Take soil samples from the area and sent to a soil laboratory for testing. The laboratory will provide a chemical analysis of soil and if you call them after receiving the results we will recommend an amendment exact chemical program for you. The cost is $ 75 for the test. When planting, dig the pit plant 3 times the diameter of the root ball and equal to the depth of the container and fill with soil and given modification program for the phone call. Give water and have a facility near bulletproof. Pennisetum do not like wet soil, so adding a layer of rock at the bottom of the pit. Do not pack the soil tight, but taking steps with one foot is fine. It may be the penalty for a couple of plants, but consider for a proposed large-scale future may have in the future. Good answer: Dig the plant 3 times the wire diameter and equal to the depth of the container and fill with a mixture of native soil and in bags of planting soil in a hardware store (regular planting soil, not the love acid or some other kind of blending of specialty). Mix in bags of soil to about 60% to 40% natives. Add a layer of rock at the bottom of the pit to keep the wire from sitting on damp ground. Add fertilizer to the soil mix before filling the hole, a couple of handfulls maximum (more is not better) and homogeneously mixed into the soil mix. Use something that have numbers not exceeding 16-16-16 (see the container Fert) and not by virtue of 5-5-5. For the vast majority of fertilizers are the same quality, so something that is not expensive. Do not let the soil dry out. Beware of the plant in the first year of growth once the roots are established is a hardy plant, but it will do better possible, if you can check from time to time during the first year. I'm Broke But as the plant and I really want an answer: Dig the hole 3 times the diameter of root ball fill the hole with native soil load in, drink a beer, enjoy the day, take a hit, pour a glass of wine and enjoy their work (trust me dig a well 3x plant is not easy). Do not let the roots sit in wet soil moisture is good. In any case, the visible growth is slow in the first year, but next year you see the benefits, as not neighbs. waive 3x digging the hole size, even if you get tired or hit tree roots big!
