How do you prime a water pump connected to a lake?

I have a pump connected to a lake, water garden use. I changed the line in the lake, as I had an air leak and lost it. 's prime.I been filled with water back into the tank and lines. several times. And it has not caught is paramount. Years is a pump that came with its own tank. When I do this I leave the tap closed. I'm pretty sure everything is tight and no line in the leaking.The water is only 5 feet deep

Priming means filling the pump and the suction tube of water. You evacuate the air from all vacuum lines and pump. It may take several minutes on the first depending on water depth, pipe size and length. Note: It is easier to prime a pump if you allows the air to escape from the pump and pipes. The water can not enter unless the air can escape. Pumps are not cousins, the pipe system is working. Jet pumps should be tested in the original start-up.
