Keeping open the Field of weeds

Begin weeding as soon as growth appears. Neglecting work only leads to more work done later if weeds are allowed to ripen and disperse their seeds. In addition, weeds flourish in a well prepared soil and perennials deprive of nutrients and moisture. Keep a basket near, and weeds fall into it as you remove it. If left in damp soil, many of them reroot. Add the herbs to the compost pile. Once the ground has been cleared of weeds, mulch can be applied to prevent further growth. Another benefit of coverage is that it conserves soil moisture during the dry periods.

Weeding in small beds can be made with a short-handled cultivator. However, for larger areas, to eliminate stooping time, a long-handled tool is preferable.

To remove the weeds with a hoe rule, cut them off with a wave of cutting, drawing the hoe towards you and taking careful not to damage any of the desirable plants. The flat side of a Warren hoe is used in the same way, the two flanks is used for large weeds.

The melee, or Dutch hoe is pushed back and forth across the floor, just below the surface to cut weeds.

Cultivators break the surface soil and weeding at the same time. When such persistent rooted weeds like quack grass is growing around the base of a plant may require digging up the plant, split apart, and replant in order to eliminate weeds in the center of the mat or entangled with the roots.

Loosening the soil in the beds of staff

At the beginning of the growing season and again in late autumn, the soil in established beds should be loosened. This is particularly important in heavy soils or unmulched that has become compacted. Loosening allows air and moisture to penetrate plant roots and at the same while eliminating the weed seedlings. A fork can be used, but a long-handled cultivator tooth is ideal.

Providing Food Plant and constant humidity

The health of the plants can be maintained or improved, and encouraged its growth by applying a complete fertilizer that contains the three most important plant nutrients – nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium – in varying proportions.

Organic fertilizers are particularly suited to the perennials because the nutrients are released slowly throughout the growing period. In the spring, as growth was evident, and before mulching, applying fertilizer by hand. Avoid letting come into contact with the foliage. Use a complete organic fertilizer with an analysis such as 4-12-4. Always apply fertilizer according to instructions.

Irrigation should not be necessary if the bed has been the topsoil, except during long dry periods. Mulch, a layer organic material on the soil, conserves moisture by reducing evaporation. If necessary irrigation, the most effective method is to use a watering wand who will direct the water to the soil surface.

Clay soils, compact, heavy rain that must have loosened their surfaces before watering, feeding or mulch. A cover also serves a worthwhile purpose. Prevents compaction. Improving the quality of clay and sandy soils. This helps to prevent water from splashing the underside of leaves and therefore reduces the spread of soil-borne disease fungus. Apply fertilizer in late spring after the ground has been removed but before you proceed growth. In dry weather water the earth before the mulch.

It is best to cover the seed bed completely. But if this is not possible, it is better to apply a thick mulch around some plants just to spread it throughout the bed.
